The following obit for John appeared in the December 21, 1961 local newspaper:

John William Broy, 70, of Clarke County, died Monday at his home near Berryville. He was born in Clarke County, a son of the late Charles L and Sallie Locke Broy. He was a retired carpenter, having been employed by L.N. Russell.

Survivors include his wife, Nellie Stickle Broy and nine children, William, Alfred, Robert and James Broy, all of Clarke County; Mrs. Velma Deavers, Mrs. Louise Duke, Mrs. Dorothy Grubbs and Mrs. Frances Thompson, all of Clarke County; and Mrs. Anna Mowrey of Front Royal; four sisters, Mrs. Lewis McDonald, Mrs. Edith Moore and Mrs. Durward Smallwood, all of Clarke County and Mrs. Cleveland Moore of Middleway; one brother Elias Broy of Clarke County; 20 grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held yesterday afternoon from the John H Enders Funeral Home by the Rev. Robert D Goshorn, pastor of the Berryville Presbyterian church. Burial was in the Green Hill Cemetery.
