Age 5 - The 1850 Census [Virginia > Clarke > District 12 > 28] list's Harriet's father Henry (age 58) living with his wife Elizabeth (age 33). Henry is working as a cooper. There is no listing for property value. A Nancy Bolen (age 70, ) was living in the house along with the following children: Harriet (age 11), Joseph H. (age 8), Thomas W. (age 5), Michael (Age 3), and Nancy J. (10 mos.) Age 27 - 1872 - Marriage to 1st wife Richaetta Cornell, age on marriage registry shows an age of 25 but other documents seem to indicate his age was actually 30 Age 28 - 1st child - Simon Michael is born 16 Feb 1873

[Soon after Simon Michael's birth Thomas's first wife probably died. He likely gave Simon Michael to his mother's parents to raise and a few years later he married Maggie and had more children with her. However, Simon Michael can not be found in any census reports prior to 1900. Simon Michael's death certificate shows Henry as the parents but they more likely just raised him. -- Vernon Wilson]

Age 32 - 2nd child - Lola Lee Stickles was born on March 21, 1877 in Clarke County, Berryville, Virginia and died young

Age 33 - 3rd child - Charles Clinton is born 6 May 1878

Age 35 - In the 1880 Cenus for Clarke County, Thomas's father Henry Stickles (age 89) and his wife Elizabeth (age 62) are living together with Thomas (age 37). Thomas's sister Harriet Jones (age 39) is widowed and living with her children James Jones (age 6) and Rachel Jones (age 3). Thomas's wife Maggie (age 28) and two of his children Lola Lee (age 2) and Charles C (age 1 mo)

[Note: Henry Asa Stickel may be the son of one of Thomas' brothers, since his is not shown in any census reports and we don't have a document that shows his parents. It is possible that he is the son of brother Simon or George W - Mark Stickels and Larry Stickles]

Age 83 - The Death Certificate indicates death in the county of Jefferson, the district of Kabletown, and the town of Summit Point. The full name is spelled "Thomas William Stickles". The occupation is "farmer". Born in Clarke Co., Virginia. The father is Henry Stickles, born in Clarke Co., Virginia. The mother is "Elisabeth Bolelen" born in Virginia. The date of death is Apr 10, 1928. The cause of death was "Valvular heart disease" - "infirmities of old age". Burial at Berryville, Virginia on April 12th. The document was signed by Mrs. Chas [Charles] Stickles.

Thomas's grave marker (see link above) shows a spelling of "Stickels" but other documents indicate that he spelled his name "Stickles"
