DNA Note: Simon's 4th child Peter and his 6th child Thomas both had a
descendants who had their Autosomal DNA analysis done on Ancestry.com.
Note:There are two Simon Stickel/Simon Stickle's born about the same time and both showing
the same death year. The other Simon Stickle
is the son of Henry Stickle, II and was born seven (7) years earlier but died the same year.
This seems unlikely that both Simon's would die in the same year. [Vernon Wilson]
Age 38 - The 1840 US Census shows a "Simon Stickles" living in Clark County, VA. Living in the
household are 1 boy under the age of 5, one man between the ages of 30-39, one girl under the
age of 5. One woman between the ages of 20-29. The were not handicapped individual, no slaves
and the census indicates that the adults could read and write.
Age 42 - The 1850 US Census - 12th District, Clarke Co, VA, pg ?, Dwelling #198, Family #198,
dtd 07-26-1850. - Simon is still living in Clark Co. and Simon is 48 and his wife Amelia is 42. Simon
is working as a farmer and his property is valued at $330. The children living in the home are as
follows: Sarah J. (12 yrs), Henry C. (11 yrs - male), Simon P. (9 yrs - male), Meli E. (7 yrs - femaile)
, Thomas M. (age 4 - male), Mary S. (age 2 - female) and Jonathan (1 mo. - male). All 9 members of
his family were born in Virginia. Sarah and Henry attended school within the last year.
Age 52 - In the 1850 US Census of Clarke Co, Virginia > Clarke > District 12 > 28 , there is a
Nancy Bolen enumerated in Henry's household, aged 70, born VA. I assume this is Elizabeth's
mother. Directly below her is a Robert Ashby who surely is related to the Amelia Ashby above [Vern Wilson]
Age 52 - 1850 US Census - Simon's father-in-law and daughter are living in District 12, Clarke Co.,
Virginia, USA, page 177, stop 126. 68 year old John Ashby, widower, is shown residing with 16 yr
old Susan A. Stickles (born in 1834). [SPECULATION: It is likely that Susan A. Stickel is John's
grandchild by his daughter Amelia. Amelia did not marry until 1836 at the age of 28 when Susan
was 2 years old, so Susan is likely Simon and Amelia's illegitimate daughter]
Note: Seven lines previous to the above entry is listed a Jane Stickel (aged 50), born in Virginia,
living in the Furr household with some Lanhams and Smallwoods.

Age 52 - The 1860 Census - Berry's Farm PO, Clarke Co, VA, pg 623, Dwelling #195, Family #183,
dtd 06-25-1860. Simon Stickel, age 57, male, Laborer, personal property value $100. Amelia,
age 52, [fe]male. Amelia, age 17, female. Thos, age 14, male. Jonathan A, age 10, male.
Mary S, age 12, female. All were born in Virginia - [This indicates to me that children Sarah,
Henry and Simon Peter were no longer living with parents.... Edith Rider]
Possibly Simon in 1880 U.S. Federal Census of Virginia, Fauquier Co., Marshall, p 52C: -
Jeffriess, Jno M 47, farmer, b Virginia, parents b Virginia - Stickle, Simon 85, b Virginia, parents b Virginia
