Comments: Birth dates for Amelia vary some say "1816" and another says "1818" it is also supposed that she was born in "Warrenton, Fauquir Co., Virginia" or "Frederick Co., Virginia"

Age 32 - The 1840 US Census shows a "Simon Stickles" living in Clark County, VA. Living in the household are 1 boy under the age of 5, one man between the ages of 30-39, one girl under the age of 5. One woman between the ages of 20-29. The were not handicapped individual, no slaves and the census indicates that the adults could read and write.
Age 42 - The 1850 US Census Simon is still living in Clark Co. and Simon is 48 and his wife Amelia is 42. Simon is working as a farmer and his property is valued at $330. The children living in the home are as follows: Sarah J. (12 yrs), Henry C. (11 yrs), Simon P. (9 yrs), Meli E. (7 yrs), Thomas M. (age 7), Thomas M. (age 4), Mary S. (age 2) and Jonathan (1 mo.). All 9 members of his family were born in Virginia. Sarah and Henry attended school within the last year.
Age 42 - 1850 US Census - Milly's father and [likely] daughter are living in District 12, Clarke Co., Virginia, USA, page 177, stop 126. 68 year old John Ashby, widower, is shown residing with 16 yr old Susan A. Stickles (born in 1834). [SPECULATION: It is likely that Susan A. Stickel is John's grandchild by his daughter Amelia. Amelia did not marry until 1836 at the age of 28 when Susan was 2 years old, so Susan is likely her illegitimate daughter with her husband Simon]
Age 52 - 1860 US Census - Berry's Farm PO, Clarke Co, VA, pg 623, Dwelling #195, Family #183, dtd 06-25-1860. Simon Stickel, age 57, male, Laborer, personal property value $100. Amelia, age 52, [fe]male. Amelia, age 17, female. Thos, age 14, male. Jonathan A, age 10, male. Mary S, age 12, female. All were born in Virginia - [This indicates to me that children Sarah, Henry and Simon Peter were no longer living with parents.... Edith Rider]
