Peggy Lois Strother Kirby of Centreville, Maryland died on August 24, 2015 at Compass Regional Hospice. She was 82.
She was born in Berryville, VA on December 25, 1932 the daughter of the late Ammie Carter and Charlotte Roberta Hough Strother. A 1950 graduate of Clarke County High School she attended nearby Mary Washington College.
In 1955 she married Walter J. Kirby, they were married for 30 years during which time she raised her family.
Mrs. Kirby would later work as a bank teller with People’s Bank and Talbot Bank from which she retired.
She enjoyed golfing, traveling, word puzzles, reading, and was an avid bowler. She was a member of several bowling leagues in both Kent and Talbot County and Chester River Yacht and Country Club in Chestertown.
She is survived by her sons: Keith Kirby and his wife Tracy of Chestertown, Brian Kirby and his wife Jewell of Chestertown, and Jack Kirby and his wife Chris of Centreville, MD along with grandchildren: Kyle, Brad, Kolyn, Kreigh, Lauren, Patrick Kirby, and Brandon Wolfe. She was predeceased by a son: Scott Kirby in 1956 and a daughter: Kim Kirby in 1983.
A gathering of relatives and friends will be held on Monday, August 31, 2015 from 6:00- 8:00 PM at Fellows, Helfenbein, and Newnam Funeral Home 130 Speer Road Chestertown, MD. Interment will be held privately. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Compass Regional Hospice 255 Comet Dr. Centreville, MD 21617. www.fhnfuneralhome.com
