Mrs. Jenette Eliza Stickel, widow of John M. Stickel and member of the old and well-known Locke family of Jefferson county, W. Va., died this morning at the home of her son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. R. Lee Stickel, No. 619 South Cameron Street, with whom she had resided some years.

Her death occurred at 8:15 o'clock, and followed a long period of invalidism. She fell and fractured a hip four years ago, and was for a long time under treatment for the injury at Memorial Hospital.

Although the fracture healed she never walked afterward, being a patient suffering in her room. For the past year her health had been failing, suffering several attacks of partial paralysis.

Mrs. Stickel was a life-long member of the Protestant Episcopal Church. As a girl, she was a member of the Sunday School of old Wickliffe Church in nearby Clarke county. But above all and higher than all else, she was a loving mother.

Born In Jefferson

Mrs. Stickel was a daughter of the late Zachariah Locke and Margaret McDaniel Locke, the latter a native of Berkeley county, W. Va. She was born near Charles Town, W. Va March 18, 1849, being in the eighty-eighth year of her age at the time of her death.

Mrs. Stickel is survived by one sister, Mrs. Mary Hughes, of Martinsburg, W. Va.; one daughter, Mrs. Stewart Grim, and one son, R. L. Stickel, both of this city, and also several nieces and nephews and a number of grand-children.

The funeral services will be conducted at the homeplace of No. 619 South Cameron street, at 3 o'clock Monday afternoon by her paster Rev. Robert B. Nelson, rector of Christ Episcopal Church. Interment will be in Mount Hebron Cemetery.
Residence History: letters sent to John M. Stickel during the years 1889-1899 were addressed to him in Lake View, Clarke Co., VA and some addressed to Paris, VA. A letter dated 12/21/1915 indicates that Janet was living in Winchester, VA at this time. (letters are in the possession of Michael Godown)
