Comments: Hazel's father's father was born Klinemullan (SP?) Germany (Prussia) and was with the German merchant marine and jumped ship in Brooklyn and became a citizen of this country via the back door. His cousin David Haegar founded the Haeger Pottery works in this country and is still in business since 1871. He was also a member of the Navy and served in both WW1 & WW2 as a steam fitter. He lied about his age and enlisted at 16 for the WW1. Because of his German heritage he wanted others to know his heart was with the USA

Hazel's Mother's family, "The Benson family" go back to the revolution days (Hazel was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR)). Hazel's mother Blanch had 3 brothers, Lester, Will, and George. George was the oldest and also served in the Navy in both WW1 & WW2 aboard a mine sweeper.
