James Garland Fowler, 83, of 5512 Oakwood Road, Alexandria, died Thursday, July 25, 1996 in a local nursing home. Mr. Fowler was born Jan. 12, 1913 in Clarke County, the son of Armstead Mason Fowler and Janie Mae Sickles Fowler. He was an operator of heavy excavation equipment and was president of J.G. Fowler Inc. He was an honorary member of Franconia Volunteer Fire Department since 1969.
His wife, Eleanor W Fowler, died Dec. 2, 1992. Surviving are a daughter Nancy Mae Rizer of Marshall; two sons, Herbert L Fowler of Heathsville and Garland E Fowler of Alexandria; seven grandchildren; and two great grandchildren.
A funeral will be at 11 AM Saturday in Enders and Shirley Funeral Home, Berryville, with Dr. William E Ingram officiating. Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery, Berryville. Pallbearers will be Robert Heflin, Calvin Heflin, Allen Heflin, Charles Fowler, Richard Fowler, and Robert Golliday. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to John H Enders Fire and Rescue Company, 9 South Buckmarsh St., Berryville, 22611.
