M. Joan Barr of Valley Twp. M. Joan Barr, R.N., born on Dec. 11, 1932, passed away at her home on Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2013, after a lengthy illness. Born in San Diego, Calif., she was the daughter of the late Captain John F. Castree, U.S. Navy and the late Zerelda M. Castree.

Joan graduated from Misericordia Nursing School in 1953 and spent her working life serving others as a registered nurse at Bryn Mawr Hospital, Main Line Homecare and Heartland Hospice. She was married for 59 years and is survived by her husband, D. Robert Barr of Valley Township, and previously long time residents of Westtown.

She is also survived by her family, Bob and Cathy Barr of St. Paul, Minn., Jack and Celeste Barr of Kennett Square, Patricia and Don McGinnis of Valley Township, and her six grandchildren, Steve, Chris, Katelyn, Christa, Lukas, and Kevin.

The two things Joan enjoyed most were her family and nursing. A Memorial Mass to celebrate her life will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 23rd at Our Lady of the Rosary Church in Coatesville. Interment will follow at Ss. Peter & Paul Cemetery in Springfield. In lieu of flowers the family has requested donations be made to Heartland Hospice Services, 5 Christy Drive, Suite 103, Chadds Ford, PA 19317.
