Death of Mrs. E. B. Brewer
Aged Woman Dies after injuries Received in Fall Thursday Afternoon June 26th 1930
Mrs. E. B. Brewer died at her home on West Heidel avenue Tuesday night. July 1st at 5 minutes past midnight, following an injury late last Thursday afternoon. At that time Mrs. Brewer fell at her home, fracturing the bone in her left hip. An Xray was taken the following morning which revealed the break as one that in most cases readily heals, but owing to her advanced age and enfeebled condition she continued to grow weaker until her suffering ended in eternal rest.
Elizabeth Stickels was born on August 1, 1855 at Duquoin, Ill. She came of an early American family, her father, Moses Stickels, having in his possession the honorable discharge of his father who served in the American Revolution under George Washington. Her mother was Asenith Reed Stickels, and when she was a small child the family mover to Newman, Ill., where they resided for some time.
On March 10, 1881, in Illinois she was married to Ellsberry Brewer, who was then engaged in business in that state. About the year 1909 they came to Missouri locating on a farm west of Carrollton. They continued to live there until about a year ago, when they moved, following a severe illness of Mr. Brewer to the home here where her occurred.
In addition to the aged husband, Mrs. Brewer is survived by her son, W. E. Brewer, of this city, and two grandchildren, Elston and Billie Brewer. Although blessed with but one child, she mothered some five or six nieces and nephews, who found a real home and a mother's care with her. As said by on who knew her intimately, her thought were always for others, never of herself; and this testimony is verified in her caring for these homeless children. For the past year and a half she has given the utmost devotion to her invalid husband, who is heartbroken over her departure.
Mrs. Brewer was the last of a family of four sisters and three brothers. She was a member of the Christian Church, with which she united when twentythree years of age. Upon coming to this community she transferred her membership to the Christian Church here.
Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon at the Willis Funeral Home at 2:30 o'clock, conducted by Rev. G. L. Bush. Interment followed in Oak Hill Cemetery.
Mr. and Mrs. R. G. Leavitt, of Kansas City, arrived Wednesday and remained for the funeral services Thursday. Mrs. Leavitt is a niece who was reared by Mrs. Brewer.

Residence History: Lived in Newman, Illinois before moving to Missouri around 1909 and purchased a farm west of Carrollton. They continued to live there until about 1929 when they moved, following a severe illness of Mr. Brewer to their home in Carrollton where her accident occurred.
