May p.508 In 1861, Mr Sears became a reporter in the "Springfield Daily Republican," which position he left in Jul 1862, to enlist in Co I, 37th Regt, MA Inf, serving as private and Quartermaster-Sergeant from 2 Sep 1862 to 21 Jun 1865, when he was mustered out at Readville, MA with Brevet 1st Lieutenant. He re-entered the service of the "Republican" in fall of 1865, resigning in December, to take a position on the "Union," under his father. Since then he has been engaged in journalism in hartford, New haven and Norwich, CT; Bston, MA; St Albans, VT and Philadelphia, PA. In December 1883, he left the "Boston Daily Advertiser," to become Assistant General Manager of the "American Electric & Illuminating Co." and is now (1889) President and General Manager "American Decorative Co." in Boston.
