David A. Long - Obituary
David Andrew Long, 51, of Huntington, died Saturday, July 10, 2004, at St. Mary's Hospital in Huntington.
He was born Dec. 11, 1952, in Ambridge, Pa. He was preceded in death by his mother, Virginia Maxine Fitzgerald Long. He is survived by his parents, Andrew Dixon and Juanita Wilfong Long of Gaines.
Also surviving are one son, Andy Long of the Mt. Union community, Buckhannon; three sisters, Karen Hawkins of Greenville, S.C., Wanda Collins of Mt. Clare and Sarah Sanders of Rock Cave; one brother, Charles Pringle of French Creek; eight uncles; six aunts and several nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by one aunt.
He was a carpenter and served on a submarine with the U.S. Navy.
Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at the Tomblyn Whitescarver Funeral Chapel. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Salem United Methodist Church at Gaines. The Rev. Randy Hawkins will officiate and interment will follow at Salem Ridge Cemetery at Gaines. Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3663, the Frank B. Bartlett Post 7 American Legion and the Disabled American Veterans Chapters 5 and 36 will conduct graveside rites. Tomblyn-Whitescarver Funeral Chapel of Buckhannon is in charge of the arrangements for David Andrew Long.
Andrew Dixon Long - Obituary (Father)
Andrew Dixon Long, 81, of Gaines died unexpectedly Sunday, March 18, 2012 at his home. He was born November 21, 1930, in Gaines, a son of the late Joe A. Long and Ruth Hamner Long. Preceding him in death was his first wife Maxine Fitzgerald Long, one son David Andrew Long, one granddaughter Brittany Kay Corley, two brothers Burl and Ross Long, and one sister Ellen Jean Bennett.
Surviving are his wife Juanita Wilfong Long, whom he married on November 6, 1965; one son Charles Pringle and fiancé Joyce Carpenter of French Creek; three daughters Karen Hawkins and husband, Randy, of Greenville, South Carolina; Sarah Sanders and husband, Mike, of Rock Cave; and Wanda Collins and husband, Tim, of Mt. Clare; eleven grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. He is also survived by several siblings: Thomas Long, Dale Long, John Long and wife Cheryl, and Basil Long all of Gaines; Donald Long and wife Martha of Arlington; Martha Leuszler and husband Richard of Amherst, Ohio; Barbara Ferren and husband Larry of Shinnston; Rita Watson and husband Carl of Walkersville; and Caroline Long of Buckhannon. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
He was active in his community and a former trustee of Gaines Community Center. He helped organize many dinners and homecomings for the community and church. He served as Trustee of the Salem Cemetery Association. He was a fifty-year member of Rock Cave Masonic Lodge 81 AF & AM and a member of Salem United Methodist Church. In his life he worked the steel mills in Pennsylvania, drove school buses in Upshur County, worked construction and was the retired owner/operator of Long's Lumber Company. He loved to cook and make fruit cake for his family and friends.
Friends will be received at the Heavner & Cutright Funeral Chapel on Tuesday, March 20, 2012 from 4-8 PM. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, March 21, 2012 at 11:00 AM at the funeral chapel with Rev. Paul Waugh and Rev. Randy Hawkins officiating. Interment will follow in the Salem Ridge Cemetery, with the Rock Cave Masonic Lodge 81 AF & AM conducting masonic graveside services. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made toward the Salem Cemetery Association Fund, care of Jeanne Phillips at PO Box 223, Rock Cave, WV 26234.
