Comments: Augustus Harris Jones came to Texas with his father and brothers, with a group called The Georgia Volunteers. Augustus was a personal friend of Col. James Fannin of the Texas Army. Augustus elnilted in the Matagorda volunteers on October 1, 1835, and he accompanied Mag. Ira Westover in the Lipantitllan Expedition October 30, 1835. He fought in the first battle of Golaid at Colita creek with Fannin.

Later Augustus went to San Antonio and was in the seige of Bexar, December 1835 where Ben Milam was killed. Then Col. Fannin sent Agustus to the United States to raise funds and enlist men for the Texas forces, and was in the United States when the Alamo fell.

Augustus became Brig. General in the Texas Militia, and fought with Zachary Taylor in the war with Mexico, 1846/1848. He was a congressman in the house of the 9th congress in 1844/1845.
