Comments: Death Date Unknown... Research by Ramona Pekarek and Family indicates the following "The last record we have for David Hill is the 1830 Colchester census. The Hill family moved in 1837, and we have no record of David Hill with the family at that time or subsequently. David Hill could have died in Colchester before 1837, but he had certainly died before the 1850 census in Chicago when Betsey is found alone in a boarding house owned by her daughter Jane's husband, Willard Myrick. So, is there some way to indicate that he died after 1830 but before 1850? The 1849 date could be misleading. I sure wish we could find some record of David Hill's death! As it is, we don't even know where he died. It could be he died in New York state during the journey west, or maybe anywhere else along the route. But Betsey's gravestone identifies her as the wife of David Hill of Colchester, so I think he died in Colchester before the family migration west in 1837, and Betsey's gravestone is attempting to memorialize his death in this way. We just can't be certain of what that Colchester location for David Hill on Betsey's gravestone means."
