Comments: He was a captain under General Nathaniel Greene. Captain Harris was made a prisoner at the battle of Augusta. After the war Walton Harris drew lands in Georgia for his services. He was granted 400 acres of land in Wilkes County in 1785. He became a member of the General Assembly of Georgia in 1783.

Note: yDNA analysis of living direct male Harris descendants of this line demonstrate that this line of Harries comes from the central England area and they are not related to the Harris lines that developed in Wales.. This Harris line emigrated in about 1620 to Charles City, Virginia and by 1686 were living in Isle of Wight County, Virginia where the Walton's father and grandfather were born. It is only in 1737 that his father Nathan moved to Brunswick Co.,Virginia where he met and married Catherine Walton that the family started moving south. Before this date, there was no relationship between this Harris line and any Walton or Lanier lines earlier in Virginia or in England. None of these families had anyting to do with the Quaker movement or their settlement in Manakin town, which was built many decades later after these families were intrenched in Virginia.
