Comments: John's Father - Reuben Finnell, fought in the Revolution along side Charles, his brother. They were both privates in a Virginia militia regiment that was present at the surrender of Cornwallis at Yorktown. When he applied for a pension as an old man, Charles Finnell reported that he (and Reuben, too) knew Washington and Lafayette by sight.
John and his wife Elizabeth donated some of their lands to Rappahannock County for a poor house to house the county's indigents.
Issue #4 from the Finnell Web Site contains the marriage certificate text, military service, census data and otherl details about John Finnell and his family.
