ROLAND , Sadie Ruth Childs On Monday, February 27, 2012 Sadie Ruth Childs Roland, 83, of Vale, NC, passed away at Frye Regional Medical Center in Hickory. Born August 1, 1928 in Baltimore, MD, she was the daughter of the late Theodore Roosevelt Childs and Alice Evert Childs. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Jerry Roland; son, Dewey Lee Roland; and two sisters: Alida Childs and Alice Carnell. Mrs. Roland worked in textiles and had worked for Carolina Mills for 25 years, where she was a member of the Quarter Century Club. She is survived by three daughters: Delores Mullinax and husband Wayne of Vale, NC, Alida Hartley and husband Terry of Lenoir, NC, Tammy Chapman and husband Phillip of Icard, NC; a sister, Delores Freeman of Baltimore, MD; two brothers: Pete Childs and Bill Childs, both of Baltimore, MD; grandchildren: Andy Benge and wife Dawn, Lee Mullinax, Joseph Nix, Christopher Mullinax and wife Candal, Crystal Wood and husband Jeffrey Roberts, and Matthew Nix and wife Sheryl; and great-grandchildren: Ashley Benge, Curtis Mullinax, Aaron Benge, Sadie Peeler, and Emmalyn Roberts. A memorial service will be held at 7 PM on Thursday, March 1, 2012 in the chapel at Bass-Smith Funeral Home in Hickory. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 6-7 PM at the funeral home.
