Living in the same building were Jane FINGER, 74, and her son David Finger, 28, a clerk. |
The David Finger is likely the youngest son of Adam Finger and Jane Lasher born as Daniel Finger
David Castree, born 1824, was the owner of a business in Saugerties 1869-70, served as Town Clerk of Saugerties in 1877 and Ulster County Clerk in 1879.
He appears in the 1880 Federal Census for Saugerties with wife Eliza (Finger) Castree (born 1846), and children Maggie (b. 1870), Fordyce (b. 1872), Robert (b. 1875), and John (1878). Family lore says children were adopted by a Cornell family.
Maggie and Fordyce found in 1910 census in Phi-adelphia. Robert practiced medicine in Ballston Spring and died in 1937.
Obituary
SAUGERTIES, N. Y., June 17. - D. B. Castree, Clerk of Ulster county, died at his residence in this village last evening, after an illness of three months. His brother in law, Daniel Finger, has attended to the County Clerk's business at Kingston during his sickness, and will probably be appointed his successor for the balonce [balance] of his term, which expires on the first of January next. Mr. Castree was about 65 years old, and leaves a wife and four children. He was elected by the Democrats, with the aid of many Republicans in this town, three years ago this coming fail [Fall]. His funeral will be at the Reformed Church, this village, at two o'clock Monday afternoon. - Albany Evening Journal June 17, 1882
