Comments: J. David Castleman and brothers Jacob and Lewis came to Virginia from Albany County, N.Y. about 1750. The first record in Virginia of any of the three brothers shows Lewis standing godfather to several adult Indians at a Convocation at Winchester, Va. called by Gov. Dinwiddle in 1753. David lived and died in Frederick County, Va. Jacob settled in Pittsburg, PA. c. 1785 and died there c. 1815. Lewis settled in Woodford County, KY. in 1787. David purchased the "Head Springs" farm at Summit Point, Va. (now W. Va.) in 1762. He conveyed 2 acres of this farm to the Hopewell congregation on which a church was to be built. In 1772 he sold the "Head Spring" farm and purchased the "Glen Owen" farm three miles east of Berryville, Va. In 1811 he sold the "Glen Owen" farm reserving the burying ground where his wife had been buried in 1808 and where he was buried in 1826....
