Obituary
Loren Binford, 76, jingle-singer, trombonist, arranger, life-long mainstay of the Chicago musical and jazz community, died suddenly, Monday, April 8, in Evanston, IL. He was preceded in death by his mother, Lela Ruth (McGee) and his father, Carl Judson Binford. He had no other immediate family. Services are private and since the family were Quakers for many generations, arrangements are being made by The Evanston Meeting, Religious Society of Friends. Loren was born and raised in Iowa but came to Chicago in the early '50's to study music at Northwestern. After completing degrees in Music and Geography, he left academic pursuits for an active career in the Chicago jingle industry, the busiest in the country at that time. He once estimated he had performed in over 6000 jingles in the late '50's, 60's and 70's before much of the production moved to California. His name is known by all Chicago musicians, commercial-producers, and harmony-singers. But, sadly, not by members of the public, although they heard his voice virtually every day on their radios and televisions for years.
