The list below details some of the direct descendants of ; Johannis Vinger (abt.1700-1779). Johannes Vinger arrived in Germantown, New York from Germany in 1710 and many descendants still live in the Hudson Valley area. Some descendants moved to western New York state, in particular to Benton, in Yates county. According to Dwight Finger, many then moved further west from there, although he has not found any solid documentation. Today, descendants are found also in Alaska, California, Connecticut, Michigan and New York. Sometime in the 1800's, some family members changed the spelling to Fingar (and moved to the other side of the Hudson river), which name still exists today. There is some question as to how this came about, there has been mention of it being the result of some kind of family fued, although others doubt this.
